About Tatiana

Namaste,

Thank you for taking a moment to let me introduce myself and explain to you why I love this work and why I was driven to do it in the first place.

My name is Tatiana Martushev. I was born and raised in Oregon Tatiana Martushev CranioSacral and lymphatic drainage therapy. I attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon and earned a Bachelor's degree in Russian Literature. Shortly after graduating from Reed, I relocated to New York City, where I have resided since 1998.

In 2002, I was injured in a car accident and found myself struggling to manage the pain from my whiplash injury. After six months of chiropractic, massage and physical therapy, I found that my pain was getting worse. I was frustrated but determined to find a treatment that helped. My physical therapist suggested CranioSacral Therapy. Although, I'd never heard of it, I was open to it, and, to my delight, found my pain completely gone after 6 sessions. I was hooked!

I started taking CranioSacral (CST) classes through the Upledger Institute in 2003, and practiced on anyone I could get my hands on. I found that I loved the work and that it was helpful for a wide variety of ailments. As I continued to do the work and have the work done on me, I was profoundly moved by the sessions, this experience led me to change the way I approached life situations, and as time went on, I started to discover the core of who I am. I can honestly say that this work gave me the greatest gift of all: self-discovery.

As I continued to develop my skills, I worked as a freelancer in curriculum development within the pharmaceutical industry. The work was well-paid, and I struggled with the idea of giving up the great paycheck to pursue my passion for bodywork. During this period, a change in New York State law required that anyone practicing CST had to have a massage license. After a lot of rumination on what to do, I took the plunge and went to the Swedish Institute in New York City and got licensed in massage therapy. Going back to school turned out to be a blessing in so many ways. At the Swedish Institute, I was introduced to Myofascial Release and the meridian system used in acupuncture which has tremendously enhanced my understanding of the body and given me additional tools to use in order to meet the needs of each individual client.

Today I have a private practice in the Flatiron neighborhood of New York City where my focus is on CranioSacral Therapy and Myofascial Release, and I also address the meridian system when appropriate. I am also a volunteer teacher's assistant for CranioSacral classes for the Upledger Institute because I love to share my understanding of the work with others as they start out on this path.

Because every person and condition is different, every session is unique to meet the needs of the client. This work is helpful for such a broad spectrum of issues, and my clients vary accordingly; some seek stress reduction, others suffer with chronic pain from repetitive stress injuries, others have chronic conditions of the nervous or immune systems, while yet others are looking to find a way to balance their lives by using their bodies as a compass.

My goal is to meet you where you are in your process. It is a true honor for me to do this work, and I look forward to the opportunity to assist you in your journey towards wellness.

Be well,

Tatiana Martushev, LMT
