About Tatiana

Thank you for taking a moment to let me introduce myself and explain to you why I love this work and why I was driven to do it in the first place.

I was born and raised in Oregon, and I attended Reed College in Portland, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Russian Literature. Shortly after graduating from Reed in 1998, I moved to New York City. tatianaWhen I was graduating with my degree in Russian Literature, people would often ask, “What are you going to do with that?” I often responded by saying, “Anything I want, because now I know how to think through a problem.” Never in my wildest dreams did I think I was going to end up be a CranioSacral Therapist where I’d spend my days thinking through the origins and solutions to riddles in the body.

Then in 2002, I was injured in a car accident and found myself struggling to resolve the pain from my whiplash injury. After six months of chiropractic, massage and physical therapy, I found that my pain was getting worse. I was frustrated but determined to find a treatment that helped. My physical therapist suggested CranioSacral Therapy. Although I’d never heard of it I was open to it, and to my delight, found my pain gone after 6 sessions. I was hooked!

I started taking CranioSacral classes through the Upledger Institute in 2003, and practiced on anyone I could get my hands on. I found that I loved the work and that it was helpful for a wide variety of problems. As I continued to do the work and have the work done on me, I was profoundly moved by the sessions, this experience led me to change the way I approached life situations, and as time went on, I started to discover the core of what and who I am. I can honestly say that this work gave me the greatest gift of all, self-discovery.

As it turns out New York requires you have some sort of license in massage, physical therapy, etc. to practice CranioSacral Therapy. So after a lot of rumination on how I could go back to school and ultimately make a career shift away from a lucrative career in the production industry, I took the plunge and went to the Swedish Institute in NYC and got licensed in massage therapy. I started and ran a wellness center in midtown Manhattan for 12 years and in 2020 moved to Nosara, Costa Rica with my family.

In my time in NYC, my practice became focused on blending CranioSacral Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage, Visceral Manipulation and Neural Manipulation to help manage pain and injuries. Since every person and condition is different, every session is unique to meet the needs of the client.

Whatever your reason for trying bodywork, my goal is to meet you where you are in your process. It is a true honor for me to do this work, and I look forward to the opportunity to assist you in your journey towards wellness.

Be well,

Tatiana Martushev, LMT
